What should I do when decided to build a charcoal production plant? How much might this plant costs?

Raw Material for Briquetting

Hardwood, sawdust or bamboo powder is the ideal materials for making charcoal briquettes. Making charcoal briquettes from agricultural residues such as straw and crop wastes requires higher processing technical and the quality of final charcoal products might be relatively low, but doesn’t mean it is inadvisable. You should take the situation of local markets into account. For some areas, recycle agricultural wastes for biomass briquettes (semi-finished charcoal briquettes which are not charred completely) are also profitable.

Choose raw material is the very first step of charcoal briquetting. Be cautious and do not pick the material you don’t know very well!

Funds

Take a 1ton per day charcoal briquetting factory for example:
  1. Main Equipment – Briquetting Machine and dryer.
The cost for briquetting machine and dryer should not be less than 7,000$. If a supplier or manufacturer gives a much lower price, you should really worry about the quality.
  1. Auxiliary Equipment – Electric welding machine and grinding machine, 300$.
For the wearing parts, some friends may prefer repair factory for saving costs. In fact, for large charcoal production, the repair rate of wearing parts is very high. So we suggests do it yourself! You should have a specialized maintenance worker who knows the charcoal briquetting plant very well.
  1. Factory
Either build or rent, prepare 2000$ for the plant is not really much.
  1. Charring Kilns
The cost of building a charring kiln is not very high, but the production cycle is very long. For a 1 ton/day kiln, it needs at least 8 kilns which might cost 8 days at least.
  1. Electric Power
If there is a large capacitor transformer nearby the factory, the investment for this part will be less, about 300$. If there is no such convenient conditions, you might need independent transformer and separate distribution, and that will cost at least 3000$.
  1. Circulating Fund
Firstly, let’s talk about packaging materials. Generally, we use carton packaging. The charcoal products normally cannot be sold immediately after produced, especially for new built factory. Experienced manufacturers all know that it is better to storage newly produced charcoal for a period of time. Under normal conditions, store for a month can make the weight of charcoal grow 6% at least.

Site and Place

Site for placement of briquetting plant should be no less than 100 square meters. The height of working house should be more than 3.5 m. Both briquetting and drying process will generate smoke. High housing can make the workers feel comfortable and it also is good for fire protection. Warehouse is mainly used for storage final charcoal products. There is not many requirements for warehouse, just keep it from fire hazards.

At least 500 square meter outdoor grounds are needed for charring process. The briquette production plant is better to be built away from crowd so that to avoid the impact on the surrounding residents and reduce pressure of environmental protection.

Technology

It mainly includes molding technology and charring technology. For molding or briquetting, you only need to choose a good manufacturer and then they are responsible for teach you, until you can operate independently. A reliable briquette machinery supply will also offer door-to-door guidance if you come across with any problem during briquette production. This is called after sale service. However, charring process doesn’t have big relations with briquette machine manufacturer or supplier (except those manufacturers who sell charring furnace). If you want to make high quality charcoal briquettes, you must find a good teacher and learn how to char biomass briquettes.
